The numbers in this sequence are all multiples of 2 or 5, but not both.
Thus, the next number is 16
In hindsight, I didn't do a good job of picking the numbers on which this sequence was based; because I used 2 and 5, and we work in base ten (2x5), the answer (but not the 'why' of it) was more obvious than I expected.
