The Golden Ratio and The Number of the Beast

Okay, I promised earlier that I'd return to the Trigonometry of The Golden Ratio. We're going to have just a bit of silly fun with this.

The Bible, in the Book of Revelations, talks about the Beast, and says that the Beast has his very own number: 666. This number has been popularized, and used in various occultic stories, movies, etc.

But how can we relate the Number of the Beast to The Golden Ratio? Well, we've already done the hard part, back on the page where we figured out that the sine of 36° is half of The Golden Ratio.

If we add 630° (one-and-three-quarters of a circle) to 36°, we get the angle 666°, and its sine is -φ/2.

Similarly, if we add 180° (half of a circle) to 36° we get the angle 216 = 6x6x6! The cosine of this angle is also -φ/2.

Thus, we have the following:

φ = -sin(666) - cos(6x6x6)

The really frightening thing is that, if you look at it quickly, that PHI symbol looks like a pitchfork! YIKES!

Silly? You betcha! But after taking all this Golden Ratio stuff so seriously, we had to have a little bit of fun with it!
