Parts of Speech
Every word in a sentence may be classified as one of the eight parts of speech depending on its function in a given sentence. The same word may be used as a different part of speech in different sentences.The parts of speech and their definitions are given below:
A noun is a word that names a person, a place, a thing, a quality or an idea.
A pronoun is used a s a substitute for a noun.
A verb is a word that expresses action or state of being.
An adjective is a word that describes or limits a noun or pronoun.
An adverb is a word that modifies a verb, an adjective or another adverb.
A preposition is a word that introduces a phrase and connects its object to some other word in the sentence.
A conjunction is a word that connects words, phrases, or clauses.
An interjection is a word that expresses sudden or strong feeling. It is usually set apart from the rest of the sentence by a comma or an exclamation point.
