Wallpaper Escapades

When I was a kid I had wallpaper
hung on the western wall of my bedroom
It was a giant photopgraph of capers
in which kids engaged in a seaside room.
They played hide and seek and such clever pranks
like pushing fish down each others' shirt backs.
Their noses were wrinkled 'cause the fish stank.
Their skin was burnt; lotion coated them like wax.
Their bathing suits peeked from beneath their shirts.
I knew they'd spent the morning reveling
In the warm buoyant saltwater of Earth.
To sunny beaches my mind went travelling.
My wallpaper-- a perfect remedy
For Seattle winters, cold, wet, rainy
