Big Red Riding Hood
My scarlet woolen cloak,along with the cresting darkness,
hides my deformity,
so severe, I must only travel
at night or keep to the shadows,
with the ever present risk of humiliation or attack.
Slices of light from the crescent moon
give me just enough light to avoid
tripping on the rutted path.
My worn shoes are no longer comfortable
as I quicklywend my way toward the footbridge
and toward help.
