"My first grade teacher hated me, and this explains why."
Childhood Dreams
My teacher once asked me to speak of my dreams,So I told her of dragons and maidens and screams.
All the weak and the helpless would honor my name,
While the evil, in hatred, must needs do the same.
How the speed of my sword and the force of its blows
Would strike fear in the hearts of the fiercest of foes!
As an ace fighter pilot, my triumphs would mount
To a tally too high for my age group to count.
Or I’d look down on earth and see many strange things,
As I soared through the air on pteranodon wings.
When my eyelids draw closed, then my mind’s eye is hurled
Off to heights not attained in this more mundane world.
“That sounds normal for boys of your age, but alas,
I must really insist you not daydream in class.”
