Writing Resources from Fifteen Minutes of Fiction
The following is a piece of writing submitted by Aimster du Clarkentine on February 9, 2009
"I've always felt this way about Valentine's Day, well...at least since I was about 13. "
Feb. 14th
Valentine's Day is a day of emotionsSo the world clamors to me
But I wonder if this is true
Since I only feel apathy
about the whole ordeal
of roses and candy.
I am told I should hate it--
The mush and poetry
since I am single
and there's no one
singing love songs to me.
I am told I should love it--
for what could be
a knight in bright armor
who will woo adoringly
so with hope for the future
I ought to wait expectantly.
But is something wrong
If the 14th of February
is just another day to me?
No, I submit, for I am content
Being neither in love
nor at war with it,
and the world should just
let me be.
