"having a go at villanelle poetry"
sorrow
the river wends its way through valley deepthrough forests ,hanging boughs above unseen
alone in thoughts, the ladies softly weep
the farmers in their fields, their hay do reap
the fields a patchwork, colours gold and green
the river wends its way through valley deep
soldiers fighting far away, needing sleep
mind and soul weary, bodies hard and lean
alone in thoughts the ladies softly weep
banks of muddy puddles so slowly seep
children cry for their fathers never seen
the river wends its way through valley deep
surrounding beauty, ladies secrets keep
their silent tears as thoughts of might have been
the river wends its way through valley deep
alone in thoughts the ladies softly weep.
