Helicopter Parents
My mother said to me when I was tenwhen you are grown your dreams will all come true
the extra tutoring will make sense then
and all of the activities you do
At fifteen I would rather stay in bed
but no, my mum would come into my room
and throw the covers off my sleepy head
and send me off protesting to my doom
The years they passed and I was twenty- one
a time for independence should be mine
Living with parents isn't any fun
but they would say my life is going fine
At thirty two my life has barely changed
I'm still at home and have no need to cook
my clothes are washed,my wardrobe all arranged
I don't go out, find solace in a book
At fifty, now my mum is getting sick
I cannot leave, she needs me by her side
life has passed me by in a jesters trick
my dreams have not fulfilled my mothers pride
