A sea of poppies red surround the tower
ceramic, brittle, each a single flower
a soldiers fragile life was lost in war
like many others who have gone before

The trenches far away are full of mud
the smell of death amid the pools of blood

And mothers wait in lonely homes in vain
to hear from sons they'll never see again
