Falsehood
FalsehoodThe only beautiful thing about you were your lies.
They were dazzling masterpieces,
Soothing and lulling everyone who heard them.
Each one was perfectly crafted to suit the situation.
Every syllable was weighed
Every sentence mulled over before it was said.
Heaven forbid you cause conflict or strife.
You never hesitated when saying them
Nor did you stutter or stammer.
The tone you used was always silky smooth
Never much above a whisper.
Everyone thought that they could tell if you were being truthful
By looking into your eyes or
Examining your body language.
You fooled them by staring back at them
Lying in the language you were so fluent in.
You had them all fooled
You were the perfect student, son and brother.
Your smiling mask so honed
It was hard to believe that it wasn't your true face
Now the ones you fooled spit on your grave
And look upon you with disdain.
And yet, your true face was never revealed
And I begin to wonder
"Did I really win this game?"
