Let the poets by their picture-perfect windows
cease their senseless writing, thinking
creation can be pinned by pen and paper.

Let them look away from shadows on a page.
Let them step outside and find the real
more real than they had known.

Let the prisoner-poets confined in Plato’s cave
cease their shadow-naming game, thinking
reality resides in rough reflections.

Let them look away from darkness on a wall.
Let them step outside and find the real
more real than they had known.

Let rust collect on chains abandoned
in the darkness. Let dust collect
on pens abandoned inside windows.
