Writing Resources from Fifteen Minutes of Fiction
Veterans Day
My brother is a soldier.I write him everyday.
Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday~
When Sunday comes I spend
The day in prayer.
I pray a bomb will never tear
his arms or legs away.
In Afghanistan I've never
traveled.
Joe says snow hides the
mountains in a white fur coat.
The cold there could freeze
a bear and chill to ice a fire.
My brother is a hero.
He's said that death does
not scare him.
He only wants to save his
country from strangers who
would steal our freedoms and
sacrifice us to a bloody death.
He is a lamb ready to be
slaughtered.
He will not turn and run.
On Monday noon I knew Joe
kept his word.
A telegram arrived.
Joe is Missing In Action.
Thought dead by all who
loved him into spring.
