Hindsight

The haunting redskin
in tiptoe boots
skulks through the forest
like a skunk sniffing roots.
We branded him a thug, and demand to vaccinate,
but the blankets that we give him reek of illness and of hate.

This is not statesmanship. This is not our finest hour.
There needs to be a cessation of our relentless race for power.
We will not stop with Ohio. We will not pause in the West.
We must ride a rocket to the stars and still not rest.

So concerned now with a world of Green
where the greatest good is to be biodegradable
And yet we were first to snuff the aromatic pines
And offer the redskin nothing tradable.

He should demand a refund.
He should keep on haunting.
He should tiptoe through our cities
and remind us of what we're wanting.
