The Curious Child of Christmas
I wonder why the snow is whiteinstead of clear like rain.
I wonder why it gathers
outside the window pane.
I wonder why my nose turns red
when I've been outside.
I wonder why kids get coal
if they have fought or lied.
"Hush," mother chided
as I drifted of to sleep,
"sleep and dream
for 'morrows Christmas Eve."
