Cousins

though connected by birth,
we also share an inseparable bond
forged by a chance union of like souls;

kindred spirits forever,
with similar quirks and styles,
linked together by hopes and dreams.

our childhood was spent
searching out new adventures
and smuggling Oreo cookies into
our temporary sleeping bag quarters
to munch on while planning the next days antics.
our seemingly limitless energies and tireless zest
gave us the umph needed to face dawn,
despite a desperate lack of sleep,
with a new smile and fresh glow
as we headed for the door.

those long ago hours of endlesss fun,
merging slowly into years of freedom and play,
were filled with so many truly unforgettable moments.

and the hallways and barns
were overpowered with the echoes
of our incessant chatting, and whispering,

and giggling, always giggling...
