Writing Resources from Fifteen Minutes of Fiction
The following is a piece of writing submitted by Serenity on July 2, 2010
"I lost a nephew to this ugly war, but I couldn't be more proud that he served. He and many more like him gave us reason to celebrate our Independence Day."
Independence Day
Called To DutyFor those who’ve lived and loved and lost
To protect and serve at any cost
Stand up and fight or kneel in prayer
To carry arms or a cross to bear
To help us sleep while they stand guard
Shelter us from pain that’s left them scarred
They fly the flag that shouts out loud
“I’m an American, and I’m proud!”
Thank you is not enough to give
For your call to duty that lets us freely live.
