Writing Resources from Fifteen Minutes of Fiction
The following is a piece of writing submitted by Douglas on February 13, 2008
"The phrase "Delightful Confusion" was coined over breakfast with Trent yesterday.
The context was (seemingly) unrelated to the theme of this poem. We were talking about the television show LOST, and the sense of wonder and delight that accompanies the confusion of all the mysteries that show presents.
And the only reason we have that sense of delightful confusion is because we have confidence that at some point, the writers will resolve all the mysteries and bring everything to a satisfying and just conclusion.
And then it occurred to me: without faith, it is impossible to go through life with that sense of Delightful Confusion."

Delightful Confusion
I cannot see one single pointBeyond this present time;
I can't predict the paths of fate.
I know not what the future holds
Around that twisting bend,
Or what startlements lie in wait.
I barely know the paths I've trod
That led me to this point,
With rhyme and reason shrouded still.
I wonder at the things I've seen
Of dreams long past and gone -
Achieved at last or unfulfilled.
But this I know with certainty,
Though life is still unsure
I walk by faith and not by sight.
So I will walk, and carry on
With confidence and hope,
And in confusion find delight.
