The Painter

He mixes vibrant colors on His tray:
Bright red and yellow, orange, blue and green.
The Painter dabs them each in wild array,
Composing here a wondrous autumn scene.

But then He sets aside those vibrant hues,
And anxious children watch with great delight,
As He, with thoughtful smile, begins anew
And drowns His canvas with a coat of white.
