Writing Resources from Fifteen Minutes of Fiction
The following is a piece of writing submitted by Douglas on February 7, 2009
"For this poem I used slant rhymes, to make the rhyme scheme more subtle (tall/soil, end/command, etc)."
World Behind My Eyes
There is a world that lives behind my eyes,Where every blade of grass grows green and tall
And satiates itself on springtime rains
That gently seep into the hungry soil.
There is a world that lives behind my eyes,
Where summer never dies, but reigns fore'er,
Where clouds and rain are softly blown away
By quiet breezes on the dry, warm air.
There is a world that lives behind my eyes,
A world of autumn colors without end,
Where trees in festive plumage dance with death
Yet ne'er surrender to his chill command.
There is a world that lives behind my eyes,
Where valleys, mountains, streams and evergreens
Are robed in purest white that ne'er is marred
And all the land is silent and at peace.
There is a world that lives beyond my eyes,
With grandeur far surpassing wildest dreams,
Where all that's lovely in this fallen sphere
Is brought to life in worlds beyond belief.
