Writing Resources from Fifteen Minutes of Fiction
The following is a piece of writing submitted by Douglas on December 25, 2015
"Sorry, I'm a week late with my Advent Themes #3 poem. I tried several times to write something, but struck out on ideas.
I guess what it took was sitting in front of a lit-up Christmas tree with presents all around, while listening to Handel's Messiah to put something together!"

Advent Themes - Joy
What is needed, this early Christmas morn,To fill our hearts with tranquil yuletide joy?
A festive tree, with ornaments adorned?
A candy cane? A-red-and-gold-wrapped toy?
An advent candle lit, Adeste Fideles?
Family generations seated round
The tree? A shiny bauble, silver bells?
Fresh and glistening snow upon the ground?
But hear Isaiah's ancient call to joy:
"Rejoice before the lord, as in the day
of harvest, or dividing of the spoil!
For unto us a son is given, yea,
A child is born, and on the ancient throne,
Forever he shall govern us in peace."
So sing it loud, and make it widely known:
"His government of joy will never cease."
