Writing Resources from Fifteen Minutes of Fiction
The following is a piece of writing submitted by Douglas on November 22, 2015
Should I, Perhaps, Have Given Thanks
Should I, perhaps, have given thanks for hearthAnd home, while in the first November cold
The parks and lanes and dismal streets bring forth
Parades of joyless sheep without a fold?
And should I thank the Lord for food and drinks
Upon this table laden for our sated
Bliss, while soup lines stretch for endless blocks
And hungry, wretched souls in bleakness wait?
And all the while the horrors and the crimes
Of man bring terror to this wretched sphere
While I, with eyes tight closed, thank God that I'm
Of privilege born, and raised apart from fear.
Shall I thank God for home and food and ease,
Yet turn aside from Him, the least of these?
