"Thanksgiving is over, so now it's time for my 2016 Christmas poem. :D"
The King We Were Looking For
You were not the king we were looking for, with regalRobes and seated on a gilded throne,
With chariots and spearmen, countless legions
Trodding underfoot your every foe.
Prince of Paupers, King of Criminals,
Lord of all the lepers and the lame;
You were not the king we were looking for and still
We bend the knee and worship all the same.
You were not the king we were hoping for, with silvered
Promise to maintain the status quo;
Or revolution’s drum and bugle call
To seize the wealth and power as our own.
Prince of Paupers, King of Criminals,
Lord of all the lepers and the lame;
You were not the king we were hoping for and still
We hear and we are hopeful all the same.
You are the king we least expected; your knee
Was bent, your shoulders sagged, with weight o’erwhelmed -
A weight right-minded rulers would decree
Be borne by lesser subjects of his realm.
Prince of Paupers, King of Criminals,
Lord of all the lepers and the lame;
You were not the king we were looking for and still
You are the king we needed all the same.
