"This is the first villanelle I've tried in a while!"
All Things Are New at First - Villanelle
All things are new at first, and clean of rust. But it all goes back some day, from where it came,
Each thread unraveled, and each fiber, dust.
New packaging must snag us in our lust,
To play the never-ending, earthly game.
All things are new at first, and clean of rust.
The shine of fashioned items here is just
Our dream-hope that perhaps they're not the same.
Each thread unraveled, and each fiber, dust.
There is a part of us that likes to trust,
This time is different - that will be our claim,
All things are new at first, and clean of rust.
To watch the new wear down and slowly bust,
With nothing but the friction of life to blame,
Each thread unraveled, and each fiber, dust.
It's daily wind, and not some sudden gust,
That breaks most of us down, to our own shame,
All things are new at first, and clean of rust.
Each thread unravels, and each cell is dust.
