A Trip to the Mall: Stolen Identity and new shoes
It's not like Jack intended to wind up at the mall that afternoon, far from it. Jack had started the day intending to not even leave the house. Sure, things started out quite well and rapidly became terrible, but it all worked out for the best, and Jack got a nice new pair of shoes out of the deal.
It all stated with a case of mistaken identity, not Jack's, but a very close friend of Jack's. Jamie Carmicheal, Jack's best friend since grade school, had just found out her identity had been stolen. Jack had told her to shredd her credit card statements before throwing them away but Jamie hadn't listened. After all, who would want to steal the identity of a poor debt ridden college student? Some blonde chick from Annoka apparently.
As it turned out, Jamie only found out about it when she received a call on her cell phone asking her to come to the mall because her name had been drawn in the win a brand new Jeep Cherokee contest hosted by one of the local buisinesses. Jamie knew she hadn't entered that contest but decided to go to the mall anyway. Since she didn't actually have her own car Jack was commissioned to drive her.
When they got to the mall and met the contest manager, Jamie was told that she could not claim the prize as she did not at all resemble the blonde chick who's photo had been included in the envelope used to enter the contest. When she pulled out her driver's liscence to prove that she was who she said she was she aslo explained that she had never even entered the contest. She wanted to know if she could have a copy of the photo of the other Jamie and any other information to track her down. There must have been a terrible mistake because the other Jamie had used the real Jamie's exact credentials to enter the contest.
Jack didn't much care for the situation and decided that the whole thing was a matter best decied by police and urged Jamie to get in touch with them as soon as possible. Also, it might not be such a bad idea to do some checking on her credit cards and checking account, to see if there were any un-authorized payments floating around.
In the meantime, Jack decided that since they were at the mall, a nice new pair of shoes would probably be nice. That "hey, I've got my new shoes on and suddenly everything's all right" song had been stuck in Jack's head all day and in the window of the store across from the food court was a shiny new pair of smokey blue Converse high-tops just begging to be worn out of the store.
