Newspaper Reporter: university seminar
This Thursday Dr. Erin Aldridge, UW-Superior’s Associate music professor, violin instructor and orchestra instructor, presented the seminar “Fritz Kreisler: the Charm, the Elegance, and The Deception”. Dr. Aldridge spoke about the life of Fritz Kreisler and his music. Fritz Kreisler was one of the world’s most adored violinists and composers who wrote some of the most beloved violin pieces of our time.Dr. Aldridge related the history of Kreisler’s life, his Austrian origins and classical instruction. Revealed in the seminar was the mysterious scandal surrounding some of Kreisler’s works, compositions he called “Lost Classics” that Kreisler attributed to famous past composer when in reality he had written them himself.
Dr. Aldridge kept her audience interested with recordings of Kreisler’s music and demonstrations of his contemporary, at the time, vibrato techniques. The audience was also treated to Dr. Aldridge’s wonderful performance of some of Kreisler’s well known violin pieces, with piano accompaniment from Beth Gilbert.
A wonderful time was had by all at the seminar and many look forward to the future guest speakers and topics that will be presented by the Thursday Noon Seminar this coming spring ’09 season.
