The house in the woods at the end of the lane

A long time ago in a little old house in the woods at the end of a lane
there lived an old lady that some would call young and her cat that was nicknamed "the Bane"
The little old lady could often be found cooking things in an old iron pot,
while the cat called the Bane could often be seen dropping in the dead mice that he'd caught

And so due to this it was rumored around that the lady at least was a witch
and the cat called the Bane a familiar was claimed could work spells each time his tail twitched
but no body could prove it they all were too scared to go up to that house and make certain
They stayed far away and just made up tails for the shadows they saw on the curtains

And that's why one day when the old lady came into town with a basked in hand
they were all so surprised when she went to the pound and donated a big old can
of mouse flavored treats for all the new cats who didn't have homes just yet
It turns out that she was simply a retired animal vet
and the cat called the Bane helped her cook up the treats and his name was really O'mally
and the little old lady who lived in the house was no witch but a lady named Sally
