"I suppose this might be a bit of a stretch for the writing prompt..."
Lonely Rejection
I wander away from them, their cries follow me, ringing in my ears. I used to be their leader, until they rejected me and I left for fear of my life.I walk away from the meeting place, my head hung low. I try and fathom what I did to them to cause them to banish me.
I hear footsteps behind me, and I break into a run, not daring to look back. In my blind attempt to escape I run through a thorn bush. The thorns catch in my coat and tear my skin. I keep running despite the pain and blood that's now running.
A while later, I slow down, not hearing anything behind me. I look over my shoulder and see nothing. The moon comes out. I remember times that we had together. The pain of their rejection still looms over me. I sit down and throw back my head and let out a howl of despair. My cry echoes around.
I finally resign myself to my fate. I am the lone wolf, expelled from the pack and condemned to live the rest of his life on his own.
