Writing Resources from Fifteen Minutes of Fiction
The following is a piece of writing submitted by Jessablue on February 4, 2010
"I went through some tough times and unfortunate lessons learned during my first semester at college, none of which having to do with academics, but rather the usual foolish girl falling for jerkish boy."
My Casualty
What caused you lay down your armsand disregard the battlefield.
What led you to drop your shield,
wave the white flag and yield.
What willed you to turn and flee
and surrender so quickly.
Will you draw your sword and take a stance?
Or stand down as the troops advance.
Don't think I won't strike in this danger zone
and give you scars to match my own.
Brace yourself for an even dance.
What led you to fall behind
as the cavalry charged ahead
What went through your mind
When you cut loose from the fight and fled.
What caused you to close your eyes
and blind yourself in this war.
What allowed you to give up the prize
and decide I'm not worth fighting for.
