"I'm not sure if frightening refrigerators are mundane or not. I've dealt with them more regularly than I would like. Though usually they aren't my own.
The lettuce really did smell like sauerkraut. "
The lettuce really did smell like sauerkraut. "
Leftovers
As supper time is drawing nearA thing or two becomes quite clear.
The time has come, without question,
For me to learn a little lesson.
When lettuce smells of sauerkraut
The time has come to throw it out.
The milk some better days has seen
If now it tastes like sour cream.
Potatoes should not have more eyes
Than all these oh-so-friendly flies.
The turkey had a longish day
It's turned an ashen sort of grey.
The cheese has turned a shade of blue
Which I have no intent to chew.
The bread is quite another sheen
With spots of white and black and green.
Carrots on which I thought to dine
Decayed into a lovely slime.
Living cultures in my yogurt
Had themselves a giant growth spurt.
This bit of something looks like chalk
But feels like a much harder rock.
The broccoli now has grown so old
'Tis rather frightening to behold.
The food I thought to make my dinner,
Inspires me to grow much thinner.
And all the things I saved for later
Have taken over my refrigerator.
