Writing Resources from Fifteen Minutes of Fiction
The following is a piece of writing submitted by Sylvan Sylph on March 23, 2008
"I fell in love with the idea of rain being God's way of crying with us when we're hurting. It occurred to me a few years back at a particularly rough spot in my life. I'm still enamored with the idea despite knowing it's illogical. I enjoy the rain all the more because of it. "
The Rain
If you find me sitting in the rain,just leave me there to mend my pain.
Because the rain never hurt me;
the cold leaves me feeling a little numb.
It washes my eyes so I can see
where all these illusions are coming from.
If you find me soaked to the bone
don’t think you need to take me home.
Sitting here with the rain falling
I start to feel that I am whole;
as if these droplets are calling
back all the things that heartache stole.
If you see the water running down my face
as least the tears don’t seem out of place.
With these tears streaming from the sky
finally I feel a little less alone,
as if maybe heaven’s chosen to cry
so I can know that it’s home.
