A Day in the Life of a Snowflake

All the children are snug in their beds, fast asleep,
While I fall to the ground in a cold and wet heap,
And then eagerly wait for the dawning of day,
When the laughing young children will come out to play.
They divide themselves up into two clashing teams,
Firing snow balls aloft amidst laughter and screams;
With such happy abandon they play winter sports,
And they whitewash each other while hiding in forts.
Oh, I love all this fun, and it fills me with joy
To just hear all the mirth from each girl and each boy.
But the snow fight is over; I'm slightly perplexed
As I listen and wonder what game might be next.
All the children are rolling up snow in large spheres,
Then they stack them up high amidst shouting and cheers.
They complete their creation in ten seconds flat
With a few lumps of coal and a carrot and hat.
Yes, those happy young children with faces aglow,
They have carefully built up a fine man of snow,
But I feel like a prisoner stretched on the rack -
Would you please get this corpulent man off my back?
