Writing Resources from Fifteen Minutes of Fiction

The following is a piece of writing submitted by R. Wesley Lovil on July 3, 2011
"Was it luck or a miracle that we survived through the night"
Independence, Part I
It was Francis Scot Key who has said it bestOn a night a young country was put to a test
By the wiles of fate he could witness it all
As the Red Coats bombarded with rocket and ball
Surely Fort McHenry wouldn't survive this night
They be doomed no matter how much they did fight
Come morning Key saw through smoke filled air
Not the Jack flying there but our flag and with flair
Red white and blue bunting plus firework displays
Are there to remind us of these earlier days
