The following is a piece of writing submitted by R. Wesley Lovil on January 8, 2012
"A heated discussion between me, myself, and I"

The Conversation

"OK body you're through running the show, from now on I'm making the decisions around here."
"Mind I don't want to hear about it, you're the one that decides I only give you suggestions. All right, let's get it out in the open, what are you so upset about."
"Just look in the mirror here, body can't you see, you're beginning to get all soft and flabby. I don't care what you say, starting today, we're going to get back in shape. We are going to eat healthy, and exercise more; we will be feeling great in no time."
"Come on mind we're not that bad, I mean maybe a little softer around the edges but inside I'm as fit as we've always been. Besides, right now is not a good time, I'm hungry, and I can't think straight when I'm hungry."
"I can understand that, besides I'm a bit pekish myself, let's go make us a salad and start this new regime out right. Let's see what we have in the fridge, OK, we're out of lettuce, it's hard to make a salad without lettuce..."
"Oh look, we still have that doggy bag of Pasta Alfredo from last week let's eat that."
"Well, I know we shouldn't but we can't just let it go to waste and I remember it was really, really good, so OK let's just eat it now to get rid of it."
Here body and mind take a little break and eat the cold stale remnants, that although once were delicious now just barely edible. Leaning against the sink eating right out of the container, they finish the whole thing. They know they did wrong but now to make matters worse conscience joins the fray.
"What is a matter with you people, look at what you just did? Do you have any idea how many calories were inside that container?"
"Don't blame me it was body's fault, he's the one who said he was hungry."
"Don't give me that, you're both at fault, I say let's go jogging to burn off your 'little' snack."
"Good idea I say we jog all the way to the boulevard and back, that will burn some calories. Come on body let's go, this will be fun."
"Wow I don't remember it being so far, maybe we can walk the rest of the way."
"What are you talking about we're not even to the corner yet."
"Body, don't listen to conscience, he's not doing any of the work, it's always easy for him."
"That makes it two to one, so we will walk. Don't you worry mind, we'll jog back."
"OK we're on the way to fitness, hey what does that sign say, well will you look at that they opened a new yogurt shop on the boulevard..."
"Don't even think about it mind, we're not having any..."
Here for the first time today both body and mind agreed on something as they yelled in unison,
"Shut up conscience."
