Shutdown! Fifteen Minutes of Fame, Where did you go

My wife is always telling me that I'm a man of habit. Of course, I deny this saying that I'm as spontaneous as any person of my age. However, after last Sunday I not so sure that she isn't right. Over the last four or five years it has become my routine to get up early Sunday morning and after shaving, brushing my teeth, etc I set down at my computer, pull up the 'Fifteen Minutes of Fiction' page. As I wait for the infernal machine to rise up from its evening's slumber, I try to guess what the weeks writing prompt will be. I always hope for a juicy topic, something in my wheelhouse and yet still ready to write on any subject the gods of FMF will come up with on that day.

Imagine my shock when after clicking on my bookmark the screen opened to 'unable to find, please check address, and retry'. I went to its Facebook page only to find the same result. Alas, no matter what I tried I got the same message and soon the only logical answer I could come up with was that the site shut down. Well, no big deal, I mean it's only fifteen minutes of my life once a week, and yet it bothered me so much the rest of my day was out of sorts, so to speak. The question of why kept pestering me, I mean I really don't know how many people use the site but the list of authors was large and that should have meant something. Eventually I gave up trying to understand how these things happened and got on with my life.

Today is Saturday and for some reason the question of Sunday's writing prompt came to mind but then I realized the quarry was moot as the site was now gone soon to be forgotten like last year's hit TV show. As I was already sitting in front of my PC I decided to try one more time to open up the page and low and behold here it was and with a fresh topic to write about. I have no idea why I was unable to open the site or why it suddenly reappeared, I'm just glad it did. Thank you FMF for the few minutes of pleasure you give to me each week, I hope you stick around for a few more years because I realize now that I would really miss you if you disappeared.
