The strange story of Emily and the egg
Emily Evans went for a walk most days, and this day was no exception. She kept up the pace as she headed along the dirt track -- it was for her health’s sake after all -- when an odd feeling came over her. She slowed and felt herself drawn to the side of the track and there was a large white, well perhaps not so much white as glowing ivory, egg. Yes. A huge egg.Emily bent to get a closer look. As she did the egg told her to pick it up. It didn’t actually speak of course, but Emily knew that was what it wanted. How she knew, she couldn’t say, but she reached down and very carefully with both hands lifted the egg. The surface was finely textured and glistened in the sunlight. It didn’t feel like eggshell, more metallic, something she didn’t recognise. It wasn’t very heavy. Emily held the egg closely to her and carried it home.
For three weeks the egg sat on a cushion in a dark, well-ventilated spot. Emily had followed Egg’s instructions meticulously. Then one evening she took Egg outside into the moonlight. ‘Thank you,’ said Egg. ‘Goodbye.’
Emily gasped and jumped back as the egg began to vibrate and glow brightly. She watched in amazement as the egg hovered in the air then disappeared with a Whoosh!
