Writing Resources from Fifteen Minutes of Fiction
Book of Secrets
I am the book into which she writes her secretshidden from the others’ prying eyes.
She tells of encounters throughout her short life. Things she may never share.
Why do these things happen? And why to her? In what way has she done wrong?
She hides all her guilt, her confusion, her anger and her tears between my leaves.
I shelter her. I give her comfort—comfort she cannot seek from others—
as she writes her life. Of the betrayal by the one that once she trusted:
the one who should have cared for her.
She fears him. She hates him. She’ll kill him. She loves him.
The love a child has for a parent.
She’ll grow up. She’ll move away. She’ll solve her problems.
I hug her tight within my pages. She hasn’t given up hope.
