Writing Resources from Fifteen Minutes of Fiction
The following is a piece of writing submitted by Trent on February 12, 2008
"Breakfasts that run into lunchtime are either boring or full of inspiration. This morning was definitely the latter for me. So in this Delightful Confusion I quote: "To write is the thing" So, I must write. But you have not the same compulsion to read what I have written. However, the invitation is open."
Ode to Trying
I struggle sometimesAnd I linger
Though I actually know what to do.
Still finding the time
for the doing
Seems much easier for you
For everyone
is Somebody
And Somebody out there knows
The truth that I say
is for certain
Just there at the end of my nose
Those things in our lives
that are harder
We really do not like to do
But the other is
always easy
It's like a priority stew
For a stew has turnips
and onions
But it also has "taters" and meat
A full glass of water
for the former
But the latter is always a treat
So the stuff in our lives
that is bitter
Work and bills and "I could go on"
Are better if taken
with a spoonful of broth
That is flavored with winsome songs
Writing ought not to be
an onion
But a spoon full of meat and peas
For once the fingers
are fully extended
They easily strike the keys
We long to create
from nothing
That next great literature piece
But the mind and the hands
and laptop
Alone cannot write "War and Peace"
So I offer to you
in this sonnet
If I may and if you will accept
A simple rhyme
that's almost in meter
And another great first attempt
