When you have a tie for first place what happens?
Douglas
I believe the issue with impossible score values (like 381, and other non-multiple-of-five scores) has been fixed. Please let me know if you still see this issue.

Regarding a tie for first place, don't worry about that - the existing scoring system is getting replaced with a rating system which measures your overall ability on the game, rather than individual board high scores. For now I'm still displaying the board scores, but that is eventually going to disappear.

Today, May 8, I cannot get the "new" versions of games to load. Your blurb that normally I click OK has not appeared either. I tried restarting my MacBook but that didn't help. Please take a look. Thanks again for the entertaining games.
Douglas
Thanks so much for that bug report! A change I was making in a totally different area of the site had some unexpected repercussions on the games! Please let me know if you can access the games now.

When I plan the "daily" Diamond Slide on the new site I do not get the same game if I hit the play again. On you original site the "daily" game stays constant. Is there a fix for this? Thank you for creativeness!
Douglas
On the old version of the site there wasn't a "play again" option - when you clicked 'Okay' it took you back to the daily games - and then if you clicked it again from the daily page, you would get that same game.

So to recreate that behavior, I think when you finish the game, you should click "Daily Puzzles" and then from the daily puzzles page, click the Diamond Slide game again.

It's the same number of clicks - just a little bit different than what you were expecting.

"Play Again" is intended to mean "Play another one of these games," rather than "Play this exact board over again."

Does that make sense?
dkh
In the new version of Diamond Slide the Daily version is not constant. I want to go back to the same puzzle to try again, but for some reason (known or unknown to you) a different puzzle appears. I like to try alternate solutions to the same puzzle, so please solve this issue. Again, thank you for creatively challenging me!
Douglas
I think this is the same thing you asked me about back in May - in case you missed my answer, I think what you want to do is...

When you finish the daily, instead of clicking "Play Again" (which will give you a different puzzle, and that's what it's supposed to do), click "Daily Puzzles" and then click "Diamond Slide" again. This will give you the same puzzle again. If it doesn't, please let me know, because that's how it works when I do it, so if it's not working the same for you, I'll definitely want to look at that!

Thanks!
Douglas
The other thing you can do (and I just verified that this works) - instead of clicking on "Daily Games" and then "Diamond Slide" again, you can simply reload the page using the "reload" button at the top of your browser.

On Diamond Slide and Trio Match (the 2 games that I play mostly) I keep getting the message that I am not logged in when using the Mac. I did log out on the PC and that seemed to help for a day, but now I'm not being recognized as "logged in" even though I think I am. Also I'm having issues with the Game options. I check the "Use the rating system box and the remember this setup box", but several times (of course after a new high score) I get a message that I am not using the ratings system.

Thank you for explaining how to repeat a daily puzzle on Diamond Slide. I did miss the May posting (sorry).

Also I have not noticed any more inconsistencies in diagonal line ups for Trio Match. Good job on that fix!

I appreciate the time, effort, and talent that you invest!
Douglas
Thanks, dkh. I think I know what's happening on your login issue, and I'll post a bit more about it later, once I've had a chance to review what you've explained.

dkh - sorry about not responding back here earlier. I was pretty sure, based on my testing, that this bug had to do with the way logging in happened from the old version of the site, and that the issue would go away once we went live. If you still get this issue, please let me know!

Also, a long time ago you mentioned having an issue with being unable to deselect tiles in Diamond Slide - I thought I'd fixed that bug, but it cropped again, and the circumstances were such that I was able to figure out why it was happening.

If you see this problem again, please let me know, and I'll look into it some more!

A new feature has been added to Diamond Slide - Achievement Ribbons. When you finish the game, if your score was a good score, you'll see a ribbon (green, red or blue, representing good, very good, and excellent, respectively). This is a way of helping you make sense of the number score you obtained.

You can read more about Achievement Ribbons by reading the game instructions for Diamond Slide. Eventually we'll add these ribbons to a few other games as well.

The question was raised, "Why am I not showing the high score any more?" The reason for this is two-fold.

1.  I'm no longer tracking who has the high score for each individual board, so the scores are no longer updating, and that leads to confusion.

2.  Unlike many of the other games on the site, there is an actual logical limitation to how high the board score can be, which means eventually the high score display will become stagnant, and no one will be able to beat it anyway (I think many of the boards have already reached this point!) so it will only become a source of discouragement for new players who find beating the high score to be unattainable.

The idea of being able to tie with the highest score does give a belief of mastering the logic. So would not necessarily agree with the "source of discouragement for new players" position.
